Wood Wanderers v Old Wulfrunians

Wulfs started the season with a challenge before the game when the goalkeeper didn't show at the club when required. Adam Perkins offered to go in so the pack was shuffled to accommodate.

Wulfs dominated the play putting together some nice moves but were not making the keeper work enough. Richard Moore nearly lobbed him with a cross-cum-shot, Jamie Taylor flashed a shot across goal and there were one or two goalmouth scrambles.

Unfortunately an error with a short back pass from Ashok Paul let the Wood striker in and he finished well from a tight angle. Wulfs then continued to pressure the home team through to the break without equalising.

Amritpal Rattu came on for Richard Moore at half time due to injury and slotted in a right back with captain Phil Gardner moving into the midfield.

Wulfs continued where they left off having all the play and got an equaliser through an excellent goal from
Jamie Taylor. Sam Cole whipped in a near post corner which Taylor back heel flicked into the net Zola style.

Wulfs went looking for the lead straight from the restart with Gardner's long range effort going just over the bar and Ashley Postance shooting wide. The lead came though in the 75th minute when Paul Hardiker floated in a superb free kick for
Ashley Postance to get his deserved goal, heading the ball in off the post beyond the keeper.

Again a defensive error let another Wood striker in to level up, this time Amritpal Rattu sold Perkins short with a back pass who was rounded for 2 - 2.

Paul Hardiker was next to try a long ranger, his 25 yard shot was looking top corner bound but it didn't dip enough and skimmed the cross bar.

Wulfs could have won it in the last minute but Aron Johal, who had replaced Gareth Lawton earlier, shot wide from the edge of the area.

Lessons to be learned in defence as 2 errors cost 2 goals from a team who only had 2 chances. There was, however, some superb football from Wulfs with everybody moving the ball well. All-in-all it was very promising.

OWFC Man o' the match: Jamie Taylor.

Final score: Wood Wanderers 2  Old Wulfrunians 2.
