Again Wulfs came away with nothing from a game that should of produced 3 valuable points.
Wulfs were probably the better team passing wise but were unable to force any kind of decent chance. The game was just a battle through the middle. When any opportunity arose it tended to be an edge of the area half chance that didn't force the keeper to make a save.
Phoenix had one chance in the first half which they scored from. A ball over the top was held up in the wind leaving Matt Baker stranded after he had called it. He came out but the ball landed outside the area letting the forward nip in and take it off his fingertips. The centre half should have been stronger and taken charge but listened to the call instead. The second half was just as uneventful until Wulfs were left exposed after pushing for the equaliser. It was last ditch defending by Phil Gardner who won the first tackle as the Phoenix midfielder ran towards the edge of the area. Unfortunately, winning the tackle moved the ball into the path of their forward who simply squared the ball across the area for the midfielder to slot home.
Wulfs got their goal after substitute Sam Cole went for a run down the right and put a low cross/shot into the far bottom corner.
Wulfs ran out of time to get the leveller when another ten minutes would surely have brought it. Points are needed now as we don't need to be in this position at Christmas again like last year. I am still confident, as we are yet to play a team who I've thought were any good. I know that means that we are poor at the moment but at least I know we can and will get a lot better. Old Wulfs Man o' the match: Jim Lawton.
Final score: Phoenix United 2 Old Wulfrunians 1.
