Old Wulfrunians v Sportsco

Wulfs picked up their 2nd league win defeating a previously unbeaten Sportsco.

Sportsco started well and played some excellent quick football but were unable to make themselves a clear effort.

Wulfs defended well and looked to break on the counter.

This told after 20 minutes when
Jim Lawton latched on to a rebound to slot away from a tight angle at the back post.

Wulfs were coping very well with an attacking team until right on half time when a sloppy pass form the midfield allowed a through ball to split the defence. New keeper Gurt made a superb save at the feet of the Sportsco forward. The striker seemed to hang his leg and went down very easy which resulted in a penalty which was despatched with power down the middle.

Wulfs dominated the second half scoring twice.

First
Sam Cole scored his 2nd in a many weeks. Sam and Gareth Lawton combined well with the dead ball. Lawton laying it off for Sam to drive low into the far corner.

Next
Jamie Taylor scored after some good work left him in a position to do a trade mark lob of the keeper.

Wulfs then saw out the remainder of the game to notch up the first league home win. Good performances from all involved.

Old Wulfrunians Man o' the match: Phil Gardner.

Solid defending, helped out superbly by Gary Dimmock and Richard Preston. Must mention also Young Tom Halford who came in from the 2nds. Excellent disciplined performance.

Final score: Old Wulfrunians 3  Sportsco 1.
