Birmingham Citadel v Old Wulfrunians

Wulfs took on mid table team Citadel in this league 5 class.  Wulfs welcomed Richard Marsh and Gareth Lawton back into the starting with forward Steve Jones coming back and going on the bench.

Wulfs started well and created a goal scoring chance straight away which wasn't despatched.  Never mind as the next chance was. Sam Cole crossed from the right to find
Chris Johns unmarked at the back post. Johns could have farted the ball across the line but headed it instead.

Citadel also had an early chance but keeper Thomas Morgan was up for it and saved well.

Wulfs passed superbly but were unable to extend their lead before the break.

The second half started with Wulfs attacking well and creating chances but with Gareth Lawton having no left foot, the best chance was lost as he was unable to shuffle the ball on to the wand in time to get the shot off.

Chris Johns made way for Steve Jones after the hour and this created the breakthrough that was required. With his hustling play Jones started moving the Citadel defenders all over the place this allowed Wulfs to find gaps and let off a few shots.

The football being played was the best of the season with everyone getting involved, all we missed were the crowd shout 'ole' for every pass.

Both Jim Lawton and Joe Nutting were having great games, Dimmock playing his best of the season and TV's Gareth Lawton showing that he has taken over from Phil Gardner as the Johnny play anywhere of the team. The one player who can't really argue that he played crap was Jamie Taylor, balls were bouncing of him, headers were being missed, shots not taken and complaints to the ref that the defenders were being at bit rough. But, play crap and score.
Jamie Taylor wrapped up the points after taking the ball out wide, rounding the keeper and rolling it into the far corner of the net.

Wulfs saw out the game to register the first clean sheet of the season and take 3 well earned points.

OWFC Man o' the match.
Jim Lawton, closely followed by Thomas Morgan and Gary Dimmock.

The next 2 games are very important, Bill Hill cup at home against Shirley from Div 4 and away to league leaders Bromsgrove Town. With the banter in the changing room before and after the games being the best I have known in my 13 years at the club the third XI is definitely a team that all involved in should be determined to see come away with something in May. I think we can as well.

Final score: Birmingham Citadel 0  Old Wulfrunians 2.
